MetLife, Inc., through its subsidiaries, provides insurance, employee benefits, and financial services in the United States, Latin America, the Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and India. It offers group life insurance products and services as employer-paid benefits, including variable life, universal life, and term life products, as well as employee paid supplemental life products; individual life insurance products and services comprising variable life, universal life, term life, and whole life products, as well as a range of mutual funds and other securities products; and non-medical health insurance products and services, such as dental insurance, group short- and long-term disability, individual disability income, long-term care, critical illness, and accidental death and dismemberment coverages, as well as employer-sponsored auto and homeowners insurance and administrative services-only arrangements to employers. The company also provides retirement products consisting of variable and fixed annuities for individuals and employees of corporations, and other institutions. In addition, MetLife provides an array of annuity and investment products, including guaranteed interest products and other stable value products, income annuities, and separate account contracts for the investment management of defined benefit and defined contribution plan assets, as well as offers certain products to fund postretirement benefits. Further, it offers auto insurance and homeowners insurance policies, as well as personal excess liability and coverage for recreational vehicles and boat owners; and credit insurance and endowment products. Additionally, the company funds company initiatives, various start-up entities, and run-off entities; and banking services, such as residential mortgage loans and various deposit products. The company was founded in 1868 and is based in New York, New York.
